Finished this one up, not really where I wanted to go with this piece, but it was good enough to finish. Tactical styling and construction modeled after Wally Hayes' tac katana with a few changes, full tang with leather slabs glued on with black parachord wrapped and epoxied tight, satin finish, 5160 through hardened. Tsuba is 1/4" thick with the rim upset and some chiseled design not after anything specific. Rings like a bell when cutting. It is Hira Zukuri with moderate Niku. The whole sword is TIGHT.

I don't see hamon in there... have you heat treated it? because lack of hamon would show you have not.. since hamon is created during the heat treatment of a katana

It is heat treated, just not in the way the Japanese do it. It is through hardened not differentially so it won't show a hamon.

traditional katanas were not made in damascus technique.. damascus technique is european.. Japanese technique was folding to even out the impurities of the raw japanese steel

No bother, I am happy to answer questions. Not, it is a single steel.

That is a gorgeous piece! You ever do any of the show types that are made for sparring practice?

No, just cutters. Thanks!
