TREADLE HAMMER

Description

Bit of mad scientist machinery. Built by me with help from my friend. 15 1/2 hours start to finish, started on Sunday morning at 10:30am, and finished around 2:45am on Monday morning. STill needs paint. It is a foot powered spring loaded hammer. You steep on the pedal, lower left, which pivots and is connected by a rod, on the right, to the upper pivot, top, which drops the ram, at left. Garage door springs keep the hammer head under tension and in the UP position, under a very fine tension so only a light step is needed for a hit from the hammer. Harder you step the harder it hits. Bit of a steampunk style machine:D.

If ever you're in the mood for a big project, Google "grasshopper treadle hammer."  Accurate vertical motion with no slides or rollers, just levers, pivots and some tricky geometry.
